The weather is getting warmer every day. May is almost over, and the heat of June, July, and August  will soon arrive.

Frank, a co-worker, burnt his engine up last week (he ran it out of oil). He has no way to get to work, so it is just me and my dad, which is really nice. Not that I don’t like Frank or anything.

We lost the keys to one of our trucks, so this week has been slow to move. Today we replaced the ignition so we can start the truck now, which means we can finally go pick up the materials we need and start on the next roof.

I’m listening to David Bowie and Lou Reed right now. Talk about weird - Glam Rock is all about being wacky in the head. Not crazy or violent, but just off key in the mind. The music is good. “China Girl” keeps running through my head, which is getting a little annoying.

On a geeky note, a few months ago I got chosen to Beta test WarCraft 3: Frozen Throne. Beta test is where you get to test out the game before they release it to the public. And then today I check my e-mail and find out that I get to Beta test the new Star Wars game coming out! YEA!!!!!!!

Tonight I’m eating dinner at Betsy’s house. Last night I went over after dinner and we played the game “Password.” She doesn’t enjoy playing games against me. I always relax and she always stresses about beating me, and my luck always shines when I play games with her.

If I win she gets mad. If she wins, she gets mad because she thinks I let her win. What a winning situation…hehehe.

Oh well, that is what being a couple is all about. Finding trivial things to argue about so you can make up later.

And without cheating or redoing the test, my Matrix Results was…

You are Neo
You are Neo, from “The Matrix.” You
display a perfect fusion of heroism and
compassion.

Home again, Home again.

North Carolina was great, but it is good to be back. For one, it will be great to have a real bed and to be able to control the thermostat.

Yesterday, before heading back, we went to the beach. It was wonderful and was the only day it was sunny, so we picked the right day.

The ocean was cold. The sun was hot. And I got a sun burn while playing frisbee, walking the beach, and body surfing.

If only I could be close to the ocean and a ski resort.

Oh well. Just wanted to say I’m back. I’ll post more tomorrow, but I have to head for bed because I go back to work in the morning.

Friday May 23, 2003 6

I don’t have time for a big update. I just wanted to say that everything in North Carolina is great, even though it is drizzly every day.

Everything is a beautiful green though because of the rain, which is nice. I bet they get a lot of snow here, which makes me infinitely jealous. If only Oklahoma had snow and hills to ski on.

Everyone have a great weekend!

Tomorrow, I go to work roofing. Then come home for an hour and go run the Korner Store for my mom for a few hours. Then I get to drive to OKC to pick my sister up from the airport. Then I come back home, do laundry, pack, and head out on my trip to North Carolina. Busy, Busy, Busy.

LeAnn told me to bring her back some sand. Wow, my friends are wonderful because they are easy to please. Kenny wants me to kiss my girlfriend for him. Instead, I’ll kiss her for me and kiss some ugly person for him - that will teach him.

Tonight I had a three-way….telephone call with Kenny and LeAnn. It was fun - LeAnn laughs a lot, which is really nice. The best laugh in the world. We talked until 1:00am though, which was way too late. The nice thing is I don’t have to be at work until 9:00 tomorrow, but I wasted all my extra sleep time talking…it was worth it though.

Kenny spent a lot of time on the phone eating ice cream with a FORK and watching Elimidate and Dismissed and Fifth Wheel…well he watched part of Dismissed and Fifth Wheel.

Monday we worked. Tuesday we worked. Wednesday it rained. Thursday it rained. And today, we worked in the rain because a lady’s roof blew off last night when a tornado touched down near her house. We could only do some temporary stuff, but it should be enough to keep her house dry if it rains in the next few days.

During finals week I was going to take Betsy to El Vaquero, but it burned down. So tomorrow we’re going to the Matrix and I’m going to take her to some really nice restaurant.

Reese and I have decided we’re going to the Woody Guthrie Festival this summer. Arlo Guthrie will be there. I hope he play’s Alice’s Restaurant.

I head for North Carolina next wednesday, but I really wish I hadn’t taken the trip. Rebecca, my sister, arrives on Tuesday night. So it means I’ll get to see her for only a few hours. And on top of that, my best friend Jules (julie) is graduating, and I’d love to go to her graduation. But I can’t because I’ll be in North Carolina.

I feel bad about not going to her graduation because I had to back out on being an Astronomy Camp counselor this summer, which we usually both do. It is a lot of fun, and is about the only time we ever see each other. Oh well.

Though my grades this semester weren’t bad, I officially hate my transcript.

One time I was using the screen name “Flaming Monk” only I misspelled it as “flamming munk.” Friends appropriately teased me for months about that one. What the hell is flamming? And what is a munk?

Some friends went to play laser tag, but I didn’t go. I told them “I don’t think it is safe to be shooting something at the speed of light towards each other. Imagine how bad that would hurt!”

In high school I did some things I particularly like… I got our literature teacher to have everyone write a poem a piece and then make copies for each person in the class, and I got her to let us have a debate day once a year. And once, I got our substitute teacher, who was the mayor, to let us watch BASKETBALL in class… He had to be dumb as hell or hoping for votes. What kind of teacher lets you watch Basketball in class?

My mom said if I can find two kittens, we can keep them. So I’m going to find some kittens. I love cats. I guess thats because Stitch (from lilo and stitch) isn’t real, and cats are as close as I’ll ever come to owning a Stitch.

Today I went back to work. It was a beautiful day, and the work today was basic. We mopped off a job today.

For those of you who don’t roof (btw - we hot tar roof, no shingling) after you put on a roof, you usually seal it with a layer of tar last of all, which is called “mopping off.” But there are exceptions I won’t go into.

Tomorrow should be another good day.

My father has been roofing for 27 years now. He is 61 and though healthy, his body is older and I can tell he is having a hard time accepting that in the next few years he needs to retire before he injures himself.

Today, he was going to walk the firewall, which was only 8 inches wide and had about a 30 foot drop off to one side. I stopped him, and crawled across the firewall to get what we needed.

I pray that he doesn’t hurt himself and can retire in peace and in good health. After losing my oldest sister this past summer, no one needs to have my dad injured or worse, especially because of something stupid, like trying to balance on a firewall.

I’m glad I can work for him in the summer. He needs the extra help, but it also means he can go easier on himself.

Did anyone in the last post realize what book I was reading? I thought it would be fun to see if anyone noticed it said I was reading a dictionary.

Today is Mother’s day, and things are great. Yesterday was Betsy’s Grandparent’s 50th anniversary, which went wonderfully and had a large turnout.

I went to my grandmother’s with my parents. It was a great visit. She was talking about tornados and said “I never did go into a cellar, because I’d rather get blown away once than to climb in a cellar everytime it got stormy out.” What a great, simple way to view it.

I watched a Dina Shore special on PBS the other night. Sometimes I wish talent like that was still around. I think of Ed TV where the commentator states “You used to be on TV because you were special. Now you are special because you are on TV.”

It should be a law that you must poses talent to be on TV. Real talent too, like Groucho Marx, Ella Fitzgerald, or Bing Crosby. You should be a true entertainer.

And forget these shitty sitcoms. The sitcoms today are insult-coms. “Friends” is not a quality writing. It is seventh grade insult humor. The writers of “Friends” couldn’t write a quality script because they truely have no talent. I shit funnier stuff. I’m serious. I hate television today.

Sitcoms used to be SITUATIONAL comedy. Seinfeld was the last true sitcom. They never insulted each other. What is funny is the way their lives interact. The Cosby Show - quality writing again, and they never went so low as to pull jokes about race. They were a family, and that is all that mattered.

I’d love to be dictator of the world. I guarantee you’d like things a hell of a lot better because I’d get rid of unnecessary bullshit.

The worst part about moving, is that once you get everything packed you have to unpack it when you arrive at your destination.

I got moved out of the dorms fine and all, but of course I realized I had ten times more stuff than I needed, it took ten times more trips to carry it all out, and it took ten times as long as I figured. So I was off by a thousand units of something.

How did everyone else fair?

I’m not ready to be in class, but it already sucks not getting to see everyone everyday. And boy does it suck to not be on a T1 LAN connection. This wimpy 56k phone line is no match. I’ll be mourning this for months.

Dorm life is great, but it is good to be home for the summer. And when I go back I’ll be really happy to be out of the dorms and into Jones (418c to be exact). Where is everyone else living?

The storms in Oklahoma were pretty bad last night. I haven’t turned the TV on today to hear what damage occured, but it didn’t sound like there were many if any fatalities, which is something to be thankful for.

One of the best applications of technoly is using it to predict weather.

I have to get moving now. Today is the 50th wedding anniversary of Betsy’s Grandparents, and I need to be there on time. So I have 2 hours to shower, shave, and get a hair cut. But if I don’t get off Xanga now, I know I’ll run out of time.

Everyone have a great summer and keep posting!

Thursday May 8, 2003 4

A few weeks ago our Preacher was out of town, so my dad gave the sermon, and it was the best sermon I’ve ever heard. I’m not exagerating, and I’m not praising the sermon because it was my dad’s but rather because it was great.

I keep thinking about one of the main points, which was: it is important that we be able to see Christ in each other.

I moved everything out of my room today except the computer and a few changes of clothing. I’d have moved out completely but Betsy has tests every day this week, and I figured it would be wonderful if I could stick around and help her relieve stress. She doesn’t need to be cramped up in her room all week. I’m her boyfriend - this is what I’m here for - the little things.

I stopped by the site my dad is currently roofing at. He runs a commercial roofing company, and I work for him during the summer. Going up on to the roof today made me anxious for monday.

I’m ready to spend the day outside. I’m ready to be miserable, hot, and sweaty. I’m ready to earn my money. I’m ready for physical work - I love physical work because it makes me feel good. I’m ready to be up on the roof in the breeze. I’m ready to take naps under the dump truck because its the only shade left. I’m ready to work hard until I appreciate everything and everyone around me. I’m ready to work beside my dad. I’m ready. I really do love roofing…for some reason everything about it I find enjoyable.

I think yesterday was a record for me. I recieved 18 eProps, 12 comments, and 5 new subscriptions. What a grand day on Xanga

I am pro-life, but I would vote pro-choice, because I have faith that people will do the right thing in the end.

Wednesday May 7, 2003 6

First off, I’ve posted a bunch in the last day - so be sure to read it all if you’re interested. Cursing is kind of pointless. Basically, when we use cuss words, we’re just saying them because we’re lazy and don’t want to take the time to express what we’re really feeling in better ways. But then again, I’d rather just say “shit” when I hit my hand with a hammer or get burned by hot tar when roofing, than to say “Ouch, my body is in tremendous pain because the momentum of the hammer was to great.”

Second, the whole Rolling Stone thing would have made more sense if it had been a Victoria’s Secret…I could understand a used condom on a picture of Heidi Klum…but in Rolling Stone?

I can’t wait for the new Matrix to come out. When I really am interested in seeing a movie I don’t watch any previews or even listen to them, which is exactly what I’ve done here. Why? Because previews are about 10 minutes too long, always show the coolest parts, always show the plot twist, and always show the five funniest scenes. In other words, previews are like cliffs notes and ruin the damn movie.

I haven’t been a very good Xanga-Reader-Of-Others-Posts lately, so to make up for it I left a comment at every site under “Sites I Read” Once again, why is Xanga so addictive? Is it a digital version of crack cocaine? Get us hooked, then jack up the price…thank goodness we don’t have to become premium members.

Where do people find all of these little quizzes? For people being in college, we like to take a lot of quizzes for fun.
